HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure is due to excess pitta (fire element) in the body. One should consume food items which have cooling effect on the body like aloe vera, amla (Indian gooseberry). If we make slight modifications in our lifestyle, we can maintain our blood pressure.
  • Drink water in adequate quantities.
  • Consuming herbs like ashwagandha (withania somnifera), amla (Indian gooseberry), arjun (Terminalia arjuna), ghrit kumari (aloe vera) are good for heart.
  • You can use giloy (Tinospora cordifolia) also as it posses’ good effect on body. Put some giloy fresh sticks in water overnight, and then drink its water next morning.
  • A vegetarian diet including- garlic, lemon, parsley, bitter gourd and drumstick is ideal for hypertension.
  • Fresh fruits are very useful to combat high blood pressure. Grapes, banana, guava and watermelon are beneficial. 
  • Avoid salt in excess quantities. Add rock salt in limited quantities also.
  • Non-vegetarian foods like red meat and eggs should be completely avoided due to its high salt content.
  • Avoid tea and coffee.
  • Avoid the use of hydrogenated oils.
  • Avoid excess of bitter gourd, capsicum, almonds and brinjal.
  • Regular exercise which can be in the form of walking. 
  • Sound sleep, proper sleep patterns and adequate rest are of very important..
  • Avoid anger, anxiety, tension and shouting. 
  • Avoid alcohol.
  • Smoking should be totally avoided.
  • Tadagasana (pond pose), Veerasana (warrior pose), Shavasana (corpse pose), Vajrasana (Diamond pose), Trikonasana (triangle pose) are good for heart and maintaining the blood pressure.
  • Pranayamas like Ujjayi or (Psychic Breath), Anuloma Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Shitali Pranayama is beneficial in keeping the mind cool and relaxed. 
  • Meditation is best and can do wonders.
